Goodness this blog dates quickly. We left Dalat about a week ago and cycled from there to a beachside resort called Mui Ne. Stu cycled the entire way - over 90 kms up and down hills which was an incredible effort. I availed myself of the 'support vehicle' for much of the way which was slightly hopeless but my bottom was on fire.
Mui Ne was really hot and very pretty but with not much to do except lounge on the beach and drink beer. We spent Tet there but it's not really a celebration for tourists so there really wasn't much to do that night either. A feature of Mui Ne is a collection of enormous sand dunes so we did spend one afternoon sand sledding. Good fun for the few seconds it takes to get down the slope, but the majority of our time was spent negotiating the price with two gangs of kids. Not really worth the effort and we ended up with sand in every orifice. Stu did a day kite surfing and would have graduated with a certificate of some sort if the wind had been kinder the following day. As it was, the second lesson was cancelled so he's still a surfie in training.
Left Mui Ne for Ho Chi Minh City. HCMC could not have felt more different to Hanoi - much more modern, cleaner, and we reckon the people were generally much friendlier. Did a cyclo tour which was good fun and generally saw all the sites before launching ourselves into another boozy evening, finishing the night dancing to cheesy ex-pat friendly music at a bar called Ápocolypse Now'. Got to love the Vietnamese sense of humour.
Flew to Cambodia a couple of days ago and have been cruising the sites of Angkor / Siem Reap for the past two days by tuk tuk. The various wats are just incredible. It is obscenely hot however - we have spent both days glazed in a film of sweat and sand, which has made for some very attractive photos... We'll get around to adding some to the site shortly, but have to sift through several hundred - it's a very picturesque area.
