Sunday 29th January 2006 Unfortunately our journey from Kanchanaburi to Koh Lanta begins the day before we are due to arrive. Wednesday 25th January We arrive in BK at 5.00am and as usual have slept very little, if at all, on the bus journey from Sukhothai. At least we got a free cake out of this bus ride from the 'in flight' attendant. Bangkok is busy even at this time of the day and in truth we are looking forward to being well away from here as soon as possible. Monday 23rd January We are awake early sorting out the train tickets to get us south from Nakom Pathom to Tung Song on our ever southward journey now. These tickets for a second class sleeper cost 14 dorrar each. We get to the bus station and have just missed our bus to Sukhothai. Not to worry there is another in an hour and a bit, more than enough time for the wife to beat me twice at backgammon. Stu is thus in a great mood for the 5 ½ hour bus journey. ...

20th January 85 dorrar for the flight to Chiang Mai this morning is not too bad. However, when you consider the supposed safety record for Lao airlines over the past few decades maybe 85 dorrar was peanuts if they get us there in one piece. Saturday 26th November Had another early morning to catch the train to Ayutthaya (the old capital of Siam). Decided to got for 2nd class seats (as opposed to 3rd class) and were pleasantly surprised by the decent leg room and air conditioning. After very many stops on the outskirts of Bangkok we finally got moving and arrived in Ayuthaya an hour and a half later.
