Stu & Amy See The World!
Adelaide 20th-23rd February 2006
Arrive in Adelaide mid-afternoon after another easy flight across the country (much better than the rickety buses in SE Asia!). Decide to have a wander around the town and see what's what, including a walk around the lovely botanical gardens. We conclude that Adelaide has more of small town feel even though it is actually a city. It seems to have a great variety of restaurants and bars which suits us just fine. We decide to try one that evening and go for a seafood dinner - delicious!
The next day we head to the Art Gallery in the morning before our tour around Haigh's chocolate factory, complete with tasting samples!! Yum yum. We then catch the tram to Glenelg on the coast for some more great sea views. We also visit the Shark Experience which was set up by a guy who nearly died after a shark attack in the 1970s but didn't and now tries to promote sharks as much as possible. A pretty interesting museum, and topped off when the man himself arrived and showed us his huge scar!!
Enjoy the evening at the cinema watching Brokeback Mountain, which I enjoyed (Stu is still unsure!).
The next day was an early start on our Groovy Grape Barossa Valley tour. We were pleased that the majority of the others in our minibus were also brits (along with some Finns, Canadians and Koreans!). In typical tour style, we couldn't just do wine-tasting we also had to stop off at a toy factory (where we saw the worlds biggest rocking horse!) and a whispering wall (which was actually quite impressive - you could hear someone talking normally from about 100 m away).
Finally we got the tour underway and got tasting some wine. The tour including Jacob's Creek where we took all the touristy photos of the signs. We had a great BBQ lunch before sampling yet more wine, which lead to a very musical journey home...
We then thought we should continue the night at the bar with the other brits... A great day!
Fortunately we weren't feeling too bac in the morning as we were picking up our hire car for our journey to Melbourne along the Great Ocean Road. We are very much looking forward to having our own transport again.
Lots of love,
Stu & Amy
