Stu & Amy See The World!
We spend the next couple of days seeing the delights of Rotorua which include the Buried Village, Lake Rotorua and the Green and Blue Lakes, Te Puia (another thermal area, but with the famous Pohutu Geyser which is huge) and a Maori evening of entertainment and a hangi (a Maori meal cooked in the ground using hot rocks), which was very tasty.
On our way north from Rotorua we also gave Zorbing a go which was great fun. For those of you that don't know, Zorbing involves getting inside a giant rubber ball and being rolled down the hill. We opted for the wet zorbing where you are also joined by a bucket of hot water and so basically roll down the hill as if you are on a giant slide. The alternative was being strapped in and going head-over-heals all the way down the hill!
We continued our journey north via the green hills of "Hobbiton". We didn't actually see the farm where Hobbiton was created but we did see lots of Hobbiton-like hills. We also drove through Tirua which has named itself the "Corrugated Iron Captial of the World!". The hightlights were two buildings shaped like a dog and a sheep! Interesting..
That night we re-visited one of our favourite campsites (the attraction was the big thermal swimming pool!) before heading back to Auckland again in the morning.
We have a week left before we fly out to South America, but first we need to sell our beloved campervan...
Well, great news! We've sold it! And for $1,400 more than we bought it for. Which is quite convenient as that pays for the repairs and the insurance and AA cover we took out. So basically we have travelled around New Zealand for 10 weeks for free (ok, apart from the petrol). Still seem to have spent a fortune though...!
We now have a few days to relax in Auckland (treating ourselves to a nice apartment for the last three nights) and prepare ourselves for South America, which will include lots of spanish practice.....
