Our last 2 days in Kathmandu were catch up days. We tried to apply for our UAE visa but with poor Internet and all the info we needed we were unsuccessful. I wish the Canadian government would smooth things over with the UAE!
We didn't think that New Years Eve in Nepal would be very good as they celebrate in April and it is year 2067 for them. But the streets were full of local Nepalese people along with police in riot gear. We thought it would be best to go for dinner and then have New Years in our hotel room. As we didn't want to spend our last day in a Nepalese prison or hospital! For some reason White Mischief vodka was purchased and we stayed up way too late!
2011 started a bit frustrating it was time to leave Nepal and head to Vietnam. Our flight out of Kathmandu was late for no apparent reason and to get on the plane we were frisked and your bags checked at least 4 times! For some reason we decided to take a milk run to Vietnam. Our first layover was in Delhi. All I can say is that I never want to fly through Delhi ever again! We needed to get a boarding pass that was it! The people at the desk have ignoring you down to a science! We finally got someone to talk to us and were told to wait. They then asked for our passports and were told to wait again! An hour and a half later we finally got our passports and boarding passes with a story about them not being able to find our bags. The stupid thing about it was while you wait you are held in a small area of the airport with little access to food and no way to get money to buy the food. It didn't matter much to us but there had been people there for over a day. They can't leave the airport and they couldn't get to the departures area where there were restaurants. We thought there was going to be a riot at one point as a group from the middle east freaked out on the Indian airport staff!
We decided to get on the plane even though we didn't have our luggage confirmed.
We arrived in Kuala Lampur with no issues and then in to Hanoi Vietnam. When we arrived in Hanoi Dave's bag arrived but mine did not. They didn't even have record of it in the system. Three days later it finally showed up looking a little weathered and dirty.
Our first day in Hanoi was quiet as we were really tired. Vietnam seems like such a modern city compared to India and Nepal.

Erin Harder I'm sooo sorry this visa thing is an issue!! I would like to hit Stephen Harper in the head!! Trust me, it's causing issues all over the place! Let me know what I can do!!!
Erin Harder Who are you flying here with?? Etihad or Emirates is definately the cheaper way to do this visa thing. If not that, we can try going through a hotel.
elaine Geeze, you are going to have to write a book about this!! I would have crapped myself if I were in the same room as others who were having fits---they tend to lump you all together. Stay safe my loves. Missing you. Loving you.
