As our time in the state of Rajasthan comes to a close we had 3 long driving days, two on a public bus and one in a private car. The first day of travel we stopped in the city of Bikaner...this is where the rat temple is located, yes I said rats! For some reason they have decided rats are sacred here. People come and feed them. After the rat temple we then stopped for ice cream at the Baskin Robbins. It was nice to see something familiar.
The next stop was in Mandawa this is a small town with a bunch of old Haveli's. (they were merchant houses and are very intricate in decoration). We ended up staying in a very nice one. We also got to see a local dairy which is in the middle of town. All the feed is brought to the cows and they are hand milked. Each individual family walks to the dairy and picks up the milk they need for the day.
The last driving day was back to Delhi. Talk about a long day. Despite it only being about 300 km it took us a good 8 hours. Roads in some places are more or less goat trails and in other places the traffic is crazy. There is also construction that makes no sense. We ended up driving through Gaurgon which is extremely modern. A lot of the head offices and call centers are located here. We then ended up back in Delhi to say good bye to our tour leader and meet our new one. We didn't do much on our last day in Delhi, slept in a bit, went to the market and then went to McDonalds for lunch. We know...how horrible, but we wanted to try it out. Because of the Hindu religion, they don't have any beef, so we had a chicken maharaja Mac...not bad. We are now going to take an overnight train to Varanasi.
