A couple of days left with our trusty car, which has given us no grief and we've not been puled by the police as expected either, they've seen us but I don't think can believe their eyes and must put it down to the heat playing with their eye sight.
The majority of the roads have been very good with today being the exception, we're off to Wat Pou, Laos version of Angkor Wat. To get there you have to go down a dirt road for 58km with pothols the size of paddling pools and some the depth of bath tubs a 4x4 is a must even the map says so, dirt road 4x4 only. After 2 hrs we were completey battered and near on hurting from the being thrown about and also covered in dust from the road, with great relief we made it back to tarmac and Wat Pou.
Ii can't remember much abou the history of the Wat but can remember how knackered and roasting i was after climbing thousands of stairs to get to the top. There was interesting stone carvings and the views took in most of the Chamsak district.
Templed out again we hit the road for our final destination of Done Khong island in the 4,000 islands.
We finally reached the car ferry at 7.30pm in darkness having been given completly wrong direction by a Lao chap, if you don't know don't tell us some random rubbish!
The headlights from the ferry were more like disco lights and we could hear singing and banter from the boat, the Lao Lao must be being appreciated tonight by the locals! But we did get across to Done Khong safely with the car intact.
Done Khong island is 32km withone road all the way round, one main area for guesthouses and about 5 retaurants that we saw. It's very quiet and chilled out but not a great deal to do, the further south past Vientiene the less you have to do activity wise.
We're all quite Loa'd out now, love the country and it's people but really want to move on to new things and sights plus we're desperate for a beach and different food, rice and noodles is pretty much all our diet has consisted of with the odd tuna baguette if we can get one.
I'm really pleased to have seen more of Laos then just the tubing side of things but we are all soooo ready for a new country, so we're taking off for Cambodian border tomorrow and i think we'll be embarking on out longest journey by coach yet start off at 8am and arrive in Siem Riep the next day, pass the vallium please???
We'll all no doubt be completly shattered by the time we get there but all hyped up and not long till a beach at long last!!!!
