Darwin. We arrived in Darwin about a week ago now and we got an airport shuttle directly to our hostel arriving at about five in the morning. After waiting a while they let us check into our room early, at around 6am. We were shattered and slept until one. After that we headed out for breakfast and realised that everything in this country is expensive. Fuelled by a cheese and ham toastie and a huge bottle of diet coke we had a look around Darwin which although small was quite a nice place to be although we wondered why on earth fireworks were going off all the time. After wondering around a while we headed back to the hostel where we met our roommate Caroline and discovered via the hostel that it was territory day which meant that there was going to be a firework display at Mindel beach and that even though it was a Friday night the night Market was on. Caroline decided to come with us so we found dinner; subway and then got the free bus out to the beach. The fireworks were amazing and the Market was very cool, so many interesting things to see and food from all over the world. After the fireworks we headed back to the hostel in need of a good sleep. We spent the next day relaxing and visited the beautiful lagoon. We headed back to the hostel to sleep as we had to leave the hostel at half two in the morning. Sleep didn't happen as the hostel was quite noisy however at half two we got ready and left the hostel ready to fly to Cairns. I liked Darwin but Lisa loved it. I think it's more of a party town and as we didn't have much time there we didn't party but nevertheless we had fun. Mindel beach was the highlight. It was a once a year experience we were lucky to be at. Quote to be added when I have access to google. Next time: cairns, rainforest waterfalls and the great barrier reef. X
