A flat day today. From Genoa, we headed west and along the Italian Riviera, passing through such places as Arenzano and Savona. We were heading for the coastal town of Finale Ligure which is where we have now stopped for the night.
From Finale Ligure, we can, tomorrow, climb up the valley of the Torrente Aquila river which will take us into a range of the high Ligurian mountains. Alternatively, we can carry on along the coast for a bit further, and turn up one of the next valleys at, say, Albenga. These remote mountains are said to be the home of wolves, bears and wild boar.
It was hot and clammy again today but frquent stops, at roadside cafés for ice-cold Fantas helped the ride along. The cycle track followed the coastline quite closely, passing through many old tunnels (one of which is pictured), which were probably from an old railway line.
Our hotel, at Finale Ligure, is just across the way from the beach so we were able to take a dip in the sea before eating.
Spoke with a German couple, over dinner. He was an IT guy with BMW: she was a social worker. They were from south of Munich and were spending a couple of weeks mountain biking in the riviera. They gave us some tips on how best to enjoy Octoberfest.
