Steve and Lorna gallavanting around the world
DALAT
(2 nights)
After a scenic 6 hour bus journey to the mountain town of Dalat. Both of us were not 100% - due to dodgy food - cam e dodgy tummies so on arrival we checked into a cheap hotel were we chilled watching movies and felt sorry for ourselves. Desperate for home comforts. An early night sorted us out - ready for a full day of sight seeing.
Sight seeing of the ever so "cheesy" town of Dalat. A much busy place then we both expected and the streets busy busy .. not many westerners anywhere!
An imitation 2/3 the size Eiffel tower, pedolo's on the lake in the shape of swans.... A great experience paddling upstream against the strong wind.. we lasted 10min before having a huge blazing row.. not the romantic experience we had envisaged. We lost face - a no no in Vietnamese culture.
Next we headed to the even more "cheesy" flower show.. now arm in arm.
The flower show ended in 2005... so yes the flowers weren't very alive. A sad place with loads of potential.
Just when we were glad that we were in Dalat for only 1 day we were approached by an "Easy Rider". The Easy Riders are famous in this region, they are about 60 guys that take tourists around the area on their old russian/german motorbikes. Steve and I spent the afternoon with our man Buddha & Partner touring the gorgeous sites of the area. From ancient temples, romantic pine forests walks, beautiful waterfalls, monasteries and even the famous "Guadi" style crazy house hotel. It was a fab experience and a must for anyone who ever goes there. Riding on the back of bikes though the mountains was brilliant!
