Steve and Lorna gallavanting around the world
We left Luang Prabang takiing a long bus journey though lovely scenery to a quaint little town called - Nong Khiaw.
Set in a valley on a river. Our detached bungalow/hut on stilts with cockroaches and a bucket for a shower, which was on the edge of the valley looking onto the river - Great view! At $1 a bargain! We spent the afternoon swimming in the river with the locals and catching some sun. Very chilled out place.
Next day we took a 2hr long tail boat to an even more remote village - Muang Ngoi Neua.
This village is only accessible by boat and only has electricity between 6 and 8pm.
One part of the journey we had to get out of the overloaded boat and walk the shore as the boat couldn't get past a rocky section in the river!
The village itself was lovely and we became friends with a few locals were we hung out at their bar on the river most nights.
We went trekking one day to the near by neighbouring villages up in the mouintains - a days walking. They were rural untouched villages with friendly smiling children welcoming us in.
The time spent in these villages was awesome and so glad that we went off the beaten track - we even ended up staying a few days longer than expected being caught up in their world.
On our last night in the village we experienced torential monsoon type rain. Scary! But all very exciting! In the end we were all safe and fine and the boats were running luckily - and returned us to Nong Khiaw for our onward bus journey.
And what a journey it was! About 18 of us packed like cattle on the back of a converted pick-up truck. 2 Dudes hanging off the back for the whole 5 hour journey, the rest of us expereincing numb bums and cramped travelling. It was an experience!!!
Once back in magical Luang Prabang we booked our 2 day slow boat journey back into Thailand.
We are sad to leave this country! It's been amazing!
