Steve and Lorna gallavanting around the world
Hi everyone,
after a very heavy landing we're here! Woke up this morning still not sure what 100 Kenyan shillings was worth. Maybe a little more research would have been good. Oh and the purchase of a travel guide would have been invaluable!Doh. I suppose you live and learn! We arrived in the rain and are are sitting in this cafe researching waiting patiently for the sun.
Lorna is super chuffed weve found a butterfly sanctuary. Can't wait! And the other big attraction in this bustling capital is 'the museum'. That should be good.
We're off on a 3 day Masa Mara safari on Thursday, before setting off on our 6 week trip through Africa! Can't wait for that!
Anyway just wanted to let you know were safeish in Nairobbery.
Take care, speak soon, Steve & Lorna (butterfly B) xxx
(Oh we needed to know what 100 shillings was worth because that's what it costs for a large beer. And we know now it's roughly 70p. Result!)
26th October
We now know why this place is nicknamed Nairobbery.
Visa office at the airport ripped me off $10 as they didn't have change! Hotel didnt have any cheap doubles left which we had reserved, had to upgrade to a slightly more expensive one. A weirdo in the street was admiring my NEW hiking shoes before coating them in white stuff which he claims is coconut and helps to protect them!!! For this service he started demanding 1400 shillings (14 pounds) yeah right. I threw 100 shillings at him which he was so insulted he threw it back! Barclays tried to charge us 3 times the comission charge to change our cheques. By this time we weren't getting ripped off again. They realised their mistake and rectified the problem. Hmmm. We are now quite savvy travellers in this town and don't put up with any crap.
Apart from that things are good. Throwing it down outside. Where'a all the sun that you see on the TV? Thanks for the messages, speak soon, Steve. x Lorna's engrossed in her book so I ecaped for a while ;O)
