We´re back in the city of Santa Marta pondering our next move. You´ll find 4 blog entries under the Colombia heading (Taganga, Riohacha, Uribia and Cabo de la Vela) that we´ve uploaded as we´ve not had Internet access for a week or so. Cabo de la Vela (Cape of the Sails) is a tiny little village which can only be reached by 4x4 across the desert. Aside from fishing the main livelihood for the majority of people is from tourism although we arrived in the low season so the place was pretty much deserted. After one night in Riohacha we made our way to Uribia which is the biggest town of the Wayuu people. The Wayuu´s are the indigenous people of La Guajra province the most northern in Colombia. It´s basically desert, with cacti being used as very effective fences. We´re now on route up the coast towards the town of Cabo de la Vela, first stop is Riohacha, the capital of the La Guajra province. After a sweaty hour looking for somewhere to stay we found some over-priced pokey room to sleep in, Alison having got herself a ride on a motorbike as part of the search.
