Pearl Beach was the site of a weekend away from the kids for rob and rach, and a beautiful engagement treat from them to us. Pearl Beach is about 2 hours north of Sydney, opposite Palm Beach (location of Home & Away set) and a fantastic place to spend the weekend.
We arrived long before other weekend trippers did as R & R weren't working and despite a bit of a worry about the rain that threatened, we walked to the nearest pub in Patonga, two hours along the coast road and enjoyed the first of many great meals of the weekend. Despite being a shoo-in to win Wi Golf after dinner, I lost it with poor putting (Wildig trait) and gave the joint title to the boys.
Having thought that we were pretty fit and ahead of the game activity-wise, we were put to shame by rob and rach who found that having two kids means that they have been conditioned into no longer being able to have lie-ins, and they were subsequently up early and back from a run by 9 o'clock on Saturday morning. We followed suit and had a jog along the beach, just a few minutes from our lovely apartment. Swimming followed for Rob, but the rest of who are scared of sharks, or too much activity in one morning, spent the morning sunbathing and reading.
Lunch at the only cafe in Pearl Beach was yummy and further improved by the back of the menus being complete with trivia. I was going to write a sample down but can't think of one single thing now, which probably explains why i am so bad at pub quizzes.
On Saturday evening, we walked to a local waterfall which was disappointingly lacking in water and therefore spectacularness, it was more like looking at a wall. Rob and Rach then took us out for a fantastic dinner at Pearls restaurant. Eating prawns, beef, venison and barramundi fish and superb chocolate ice-cream next to the beach under the moonlight was pretty special.
Sunday morning, the activities commenced again with a game of tennis on racquets that probably were first used in the 80's, not quite wooden but near enough. Team Evison (I took the name for the first time for the purposes of identification) won a spectacular game 6-3.
More sun-bathing and rock pooling in the afternoon which took me back to our childhood days in scotland, then back to Bondi to see two gorgeous kids who were very excited to see their parents back again.
