Having left Peru, travelled through a little bit of Brazil we arrived back in Colombia (the area is known as Tres Fronteras) we had to decide what to do with the rest of our time in the Amazon. The options were a further tour up the River, kayaking, a centre where you can climb into the rainforest canopy and see snakes etc or perhaps most interestingly a two night trip where you spent the first night in a Maloca (the indigenous people´s town hall) with the local Shamen who gives you a drink called ayahuasca which makes you violently sick, gives you the s***s (this was the sales reps language) before you start to hallucinate and potentially have conversations with dead people! The second night is spent in the jungle having treked for the day before heading back to town the next day. This package was definitely the most interesting and also the most expensive. Given we´d already spent quite a bit of our budget on the first trip and perhaps most importantly we were aware that drinking the local tap water can produce the same results as the ayahuasca we asked whether it was possible to do a one night trip where we camped out in the jungle. After a bit of haggling we agreed a price so tomorrow we set off for a night in the rainforest.
