Arrived in Pellegrini, which is a really small town, in the Esterol del Ibera Nature Reserve, a huge wetland area. We arrived by 4x4, the only way to get here from where we were as they have decided not to tarmac the road in order to prevent a huge influx of tourists. This only added to the appeal. we went on a boat trip where we got really close to all the wildlife, including Caiman and the largest rodents in the world (photos will appear in due course). We also went horse riding and did a night safari which involved us tiptoeing around the forest with a torch whispering a-neeee-mal (Spanish you know) whenever we saw anything. The town is small but everyone we met was so friendly and we had the opportunity to practice our Spanish, a very slow pace of life with the biggest problem being avoiding the cows, horses, dogs and toads that are everywhere when walking home at night. We got off the beaten track by visiting here and thoroughly enjoyed it. Uruguay next stop.
