Hervey Bay
After a 7hour bus journey from Brisbane we arrived at Hervey Bay at 6pm. We stayed at a backpackers hostel called Beaches. It was a really nice hostel with a good bar and a nice pool, the rooms were really good too!! When we arrived we dumped our stuff in the room and headed straight for the showers and then the bar!! We needed drink and food after all the travelling-it was happy hour as well!! So we had food and a couple of drinks, and then headed for bed as we had an early start of 6.30am :-( During the night we got woke up by 2 chinese girls at 2am, we were not impressed, lights were on and they didnt stop talking for about half an hour!! As you can imagine we were very tired in the morning!!
Before i start telling you about Fraser Island i have got to say it is one of the most amzing and beautiful places i have ever been to (you will see what i mean when you see the photos!)...........
Day 1
We got picked up at our hostel at 7.45am and then taken to catch the ferry. The ferry took about 45mins which too wasnt bad. We decided to go for the guided tour instead of the self drive, we didnt fancy camoing out in the beach, we wanted a bed!! The eather had picked up too so we were happy! When we arrived on Fraser Island we were met by out tour guide Chris. He seemed a really nice guy! There was 40 people in our group so he took us to our 4wheel drive bus that we would be using throughout the 3days we had on Fraser Island. The first thing he told us to do was put our seat belts on, a few people ignored him, as soon as we started out along the bumpy road those people soon put them on!! It was really good!! After a long bumpy road Chris then told us we had a long walk to our first stop off Lake Basin. We walked through a Rainforest to get here which was cool. When we arrived at Lake Basin we asked Chirs how long that walk was and he was like 'only 2.8Km', no wonder we were so hot!! It was worth the walk though, the Lake was lovely, it had beautigul white sand and clear water. We only stayed about 30mins here so we walked around the Lake and had a picture with Chris, we decided he looked like Toadie out of Neighbours!!
Next we went for a lovely lunch, you would never had though he had just got it out of the 4x4! We had salad and cold meats, it was well nice!! After lunch we walked to Pile Valley which was another 2.6Km walk, well at least we walked our lunch off! Here Chris met us then we got back onto the bus and he took us to Lake Mackenzie, he said that this place was even better then Lake Basin! When we arrived we couldnt belive it, it was amzing, the beach was even nicer and the water was gorgeous!! We stayed here for about an hour, so we sunbathed for abit and had loads of pictures taken in the water, we also cleaned out jewerlly with the sand and exfoliated!! it actually worked our faces were as sift as babies bum!! hehe!! While we were in the water a young boy came up to us woht a water turtle, it was really cute, Claire and Loz held it. I couldn't though casue it kep moving so i just had a photo of it with Loz!! After the Lake we then had tea and Biscuits and headed back to our lodges. Our Lodge was nice, we had our own dorm which was good. It was a big lodge with about another 10-12 people in it!! After a quick shower and change we headed down to the Dingo Bar, here we had a buffet dinner and a few drinks. We got chatting to a few people who were on our tour which was good, we had acouple of rounds of match box, then had an early night as we had been in the bar since 6pm!! and we had an ealy start in the morning!!
Day 2
The alarm went off at 7am......we were all still really tired from tiring day we had the day before. We went down for breakfast, i might add it was a full english!! It set us up for a day!! And then got picked up by Chris at the top of the bar. As we got to know a few people now it was good. We headed for the back seat of the bus as Chris said that it felt like a roller coaster so me, loz, Paddy, Frank, Graham and Brian all got it!! It was well fun, the road that we went down was really bumpy! As we were driving along the windy roads Chris spotted a snake so he stopped the bus and got out and held it, it was a Carpet Python, it was huge!. Loz touched it but Claire and I didnt dare!! We then headed for Stonetool Sandblow Lookout whihc was beautiful, i couldnt belive how many beautiful places there were on the island! Next we went to 75mile beach where Chris drove upto 100 miles per hours, which was awesome!! I wanted to drive! While on the beach we then stopped off at Red Cannon, here we had some group photos down, and me and Graham streaked infront of the Chinese people's photo!! (Well not really i had my bikkni top on-we didnt like the Chinc's astheyw were really rude!! they found it funny though!!), next we went to Indian Head before going for lunch, here we walked up a huge hill, it was an amzing view though when we got to the top!! (see pictures!) We then had lunch, again it was a really nice lunch and then headed to the Champayne Pool, this place was cool, we didnt go in the water though cause you had to climb over loads of rocks to get to the good part of the water.... we didnt fancy hurting outselves so we sunbathed on the rocks!! After sunbathing for an hour we then went and looked at the Maheno Ship which was ship wreaked on the beach and then went to Eli Creak, this place was really nice we waled down the fresh water stream, it was lovely! We then sunbathed for abit it was well hot!
That night we went to the lads lodge for a few beers before going down for dinner. When we went down for dinner i wasnt feeling too great so i only had a bit of dinner. After dinner we then went back to the lads lodge as they wanted to drink the rest of their beer!! It was nice just to chill!! About 10.30pm we headed back to out room as we had yet another ealry morning. The lads by this tiome were drunk!! That night we had a knock at our bedroom door about 2.30am, we were like who is, nobody answered, bu this time we were a little scared!! We didnt answer the door, so we just turned the light off and went back to sleep. 15mins laterit happened again this time they spoke, it was Graham, he thought the lodge was his as they were identical!! We soon sent him packing to the right one!!
Day 3
We went down for breakfast to only find Frank down there!! Apparently Graham had fallen over and sprained his ankle and the other two were too tired!! So it was just the three of us today!! We got on the bus and headed to Lake Waddy. Before driving away Chris asked if anyone wanted to sit up front with him, Claire was yeah i will! Shes such a geek!! When we got the lookout point of Lake Waddy it was just miles of sand dunes and a small lake, it was amazing. We all did a 25min walk to get here through the bush. When we hot to the sand, it felt like we were on the dessert! Here we did Sand boarding down a hill into the lake! It was great fun, we started off going down quite tame but then lead up to the big hill, it was great fun!! We had races down and took loads of video!! At one point i went down on the small board and came off half way down, i got sand everywhere!! Claire would only do the small hill though, she was too scared!!! After about 4 goes, i was too tired as obviously uyou ha to climb back up the hill!! After Sand Boarding we had to walk across the dunes which was 2.8Km, it was hard work getting up the hill but agin good fun, we were just glad the sun wasnt beating down or else it would have killed us!! Frank at this point was struggling with a hang over-we were sooo glad we didnt drink!! Once we had done our long walk we then went for lunch at Eurong Beach resort, where we had a lovely buffet meal! (we were being spoilt!) After lunch we went to Birrbean Lake, again it was amazing, here we sunbathed and had more photos in the water!! After we had sunbathed for a while i came up with the idea of doing the Dirt Dancing lift in the water. So me and Claire dragged Frank with us!! We each had about 10 goes, unfortunely we couldnt quite get straight!! It was great fun though, as you will tell by the pictures!! Next we had tea and biscuits and then headed back to the KingFisher Resort where we got showered and waited for the Ferry to take us back to the bus station!! We went and had a beer in the bar with Chris, he was a right laugh we were so glad we had him as our tour guide!!
We have had the best 3days ever, one of the best tours we have done so far!!
When we got the bus station we then had a 6.5hour wait until the GrayHound picked us up to take us to Airlie Beach, where we had a 14hour journey ahead of us!! As you can imagine we werent looking forward to the wait and journey ahead!! We went for some dinner and then went to the cinema, whihc was next to the bus station. We went and watched P.S I Love You, which was a really good film, it also wasted a few hours, we only had to wait at the bus station for 30mins before the bus came!!
We are now in Airlie Beach while i type this, the 14hour bus jouney wasnt the best!!! I slept quite alot of the way but not enough!! We arrived in Airlie at at 2.30pm where we checked into Magmums Hostel. The hostel seems quite nice and the dorm is ok! Were off out tonight as we havent been out for ages and apparently its a really good night out......so roll on!!
I will proberly update now after our Whitsundays boat trip which again i cant wait for!!
Speak soon....
