Steve's Global Adventure
Welcome to the next installment of my travels - Toronto.
I arrived in Toronto after a 11 hour journey on the 'peasant wagon' from New York on 15 June. The bus really wasn't as gruesome as everyone had made it out to be. It was air conditioned, the seats reclined quite far back and I had two seats to myself. As it was an overnight journey, I just curled up into a ball and slept for most of it. We passed through Niagra Falls at dawn, which was a breath taking experience, even though my eyes were not open fully from all the sleeping I had been doing! I vow to return there someday, perhaps by night, to see it wit a different set of eyes.
The hostel I stayed at for the first three nights was really nice, so much better than the one in New York, and the people in Toronto seemed so much friendlier than what I had been used to. I could see that I was going to be much happier in this city.
For the following four nights I stayed with my friend Helen and Ralphy the dog. I became Helens 'sidekick' for a while, which I am ever so grateful for. Met loads of nice people here (mostly from Yorkshire!), and hope to keep in touch with them all . Not quite sure how I can ever repay Helen and her friends for their kindness to me whilst in Toronto, but all I can say is that once I have returned to the UK, you will always have a place to stay and a chauffeur at your disposal.
Spent one afternoon up the CN Tower, which claims to be the tallest free standing structure in the world. I didn't go all the way to the very top, but stayed at the observation deck level (1,200 feet above sea level) for about 3 hours drinking Molson Dry and watching the world go by. A very relaxing time was had.
Other activities in Toronto included going to The Beaches, a BBQ, a house party (where the patio collapsed under the weight of people!), watched Harry Potter 3 and Shrek 2 and had lots of nice meals.
All in all I had a fabulous time in Toronto and will definitely go back there after I have finished travelling. There's no excuse really as it only costs about 250 Pounds return from the UK and it is such a lovely place, with lovely people.
I'm actually back in NYC now and will be staying here until Monday, when I will be travelling to Boston. I'll send another update from there.
Miss you all lots.
