Steve's Global Adventure
I got the most incredible opportunity to stay in Key Largo for the weekend, staying with Danny and his family, so naturally I snapped his hand off! So, after checking out of the Clay Hotel in Miami, we set off early Saturday morning, back down through South Miami to Key Largo.
Danny's house is not like any house I have ever seen in the UK, or anywhere else for that matter. It was on two floors, with the kitchen upstairs, large living room downstairs and a beautiful indoor/outdoor pool at the back. Beyond the swimming pool there was a dock, BBQ area, two boats and Kyaks - obviously the active kind of family. The dock was on a channel off the Everglades, although I'm still not sure how they all tie up together without seeing an aerial view of the area.
Inside the house was what I can only describe as an 'adults playground', featuring full size snooker table, fruit machine, bar, piano, tropical fish tank and a TV the size of a soccer pitch! I want a house like that one day!! Perhaps I'd better get my white backside home soon to earn some money then!!
Anyway, without prattling on too much, I spent the next few days kyaking, swimming, having more great Cuban food, playing pool, sunbathing, watching films and getting drunk. One day, we went out on a lovely boat with Danny's Aunt (I can only remember her as Tati but that's not her real name!) and Cici (sorry if that's spelt wrong) out to a coral reef called 'The Christ'. We did lots snorkling and diving down with the fishes at this spot. It was truly spectacular and I had such a wonderful time. This reef is called 'The Christ' because it has a 7 foot statue of our Lord on the sea bed, which was really quite interesting and a little bit creepy, if I'm being honest!!
Anyway, my time in Key Largo had to come to an end at some point and it was off to San Francisco next, via Los Angeles. I have to say though, that it's a good job my flight was already pre-booked as the Noval's would have had a house guest for some time longer!!
Next stop Loas Angeles (but very breifly!)
Much love,
Stephen xxx
