After what had been a considerable amount of time in cold weather(I know it's nothing compared to being at home - but then the point of this trip is that I want something different to what's at home) I decided for my last days in Peru I would stay by the beach and opted to go first to Huanchaco! I stayed in a hostel called the chill out which I felt was particularly apt. On arrival I had a very chilled out day (sleeping most of it) and searching for accommodation in Mancora where I (and apparently everyone else in Peru) wanted to go for New Year.Eventually I got accommodation and a bus but it took all day. The following day was my day by the beach - it was so nice to feel warm again - I loved it - I just chilled on the beach and went for a bit of a walk. I spent that eveing in the hostel chatting with Claire (a kiwi girl) and the hostel owner - a really really interesting guy who's lived a very varied life, it was an enjoyable evening.
The next day, my last in Huanchaco, I decided to see the local historical sites. Then area is home to some very old mud structures build by the some pre-inca people (the Chan). Our first stop was the Huaca del luna temple, an adobe mud structurewhich is over 1000 years old, the most amazing things here is that the coloured artwork is all original! We also saw huaca del sol but could not enter due to work being done.
After lunch we visited the rainbow temple and then Chan Chan the largest mud ruins in the world - there are ruins as far as the eye can see in all directions! It was really cool to see. Then my short trip to Huanchaco was over and I was off to Mancora to celebrate new year!
