It is only 5kms to Vina Del Mar and to be honest feels like it is just an extension of the same city. We arrived into Vina in the early afternoon, the lonely planet made one of the museums sound quite interesting so we decided to give it a go - having not been to a museum in a long time! It gave a historical timeline of the different regions of Chile and some other parts of South America - which was interesting but not massively different to other museums I've visited. The main draw however was it's Easter Island section. It even has a genuine statue from Easter Island. Upstairs it has stuffed animals, including a 2 faced baby llama!
After the museum we went to Vina's beach which was a tad disappointing, maybe because the weather wasn't fantastic but it just didn't strike me as a great beach. We returned to the hostel where we got a take away and sat and polished off a couple of beers and 4 bottles of red wine!
The following day Tara and I returned to Santiago for Tara's last day. We spent a lot of the day doing errands, and finished up cooking another slap up meal and drinking a fantastic bottle of 2005 Malbec we had bought on our wine tour!
Then a great sadness occurred - Tara left! It was terribly sad - we had had the most amazing 5 weeks together (with maybe the slight exception of Tara's arm breaking) but because she is an absolute star this had no ill effect on our trip at all!! We shared so much together and saw so much it really was an awesome time!! The only consolation was that I wouldn't be alone for long as I was off to meet Nick and Rob in BA.
