We arrived quite late into Santiago - the border crossing coming from Argentina taking significantly longer than the crossing into Argentina! We had time for a little wander before catching up with some friends in the hostel (Mike who we met in Pucon and Bryan who we met in Mendoza) over a couple of beers.
We got up early on Saturday to go collect our tickets for LOLLAPALOOZA, so after breakfast, and a breakfast beer or 2 we headed to the festival. The ticket collection was a sham - it took us the best part of 4 hours! My beer buzz was wearing off (luckily Mike, who had his tickets managed to get us some more). We finally got inside in time to see James who were (as always) awesome! It was after James that we discovered that it wasn't possible to buy booze inside the festival unless you were a VIP!! Disaster!!! Obviously for those who know me - I didn't give up that early! Tara and I decided we'd try and get out and come back - but you weren't allowed!! But what about my friend cripply Bob (Tara with a broken arm), she has a broken arm and we need to go to a pharmacy to get her some pain killers? Oh ok of course you can leave!! Result, so after a nice cheap lunch outside the park, with a bottle of vodka (decanted into a water bottle) we were back! Then it was time for what is probably my highlight of the weekend - The National - they were simply immense! Since I've been away The National are probably the band I've been listening to the most - a big thank you to Andy Stone for bringing them into my life! Watching fake empire at lollapalooza is probably one of the highlights of my entire trip - just one of those moments that remind you how awesome your life is!! After the national we wandered around for a bit and then finished up watching The Killers - who as always delivered a massive set. After the gig we went for a kebab and a few beers - what a day and the mega bonus is we got to go back and do it all again the next day!
On Sunday we were better prepared so this time had 2 bottles of vodka with us! The highlights on Sunday included the Flaming Lips who were simply awesome - so much fun, standing in the sun watching the Flaming Lips is something everyone should do at least once once!!! We also checked out 30 Seconds to Mars and finished watching Kanye West (this is not to my taste - try as I did - so I left to see a bit of dance music in the form of Armen van Buren). The lollapalooza weekend was just amazing; it's my festival fix for the year as I won't be around for the others!
Kirsten and Nick (who we'd met in Mendoza) had made it to Santiago but weren't going to Lollapalooza so they headed off to Valpraiso and we decided we would follow them on Monday!
