Our tour group was truely an international affair with people from 3 continents and 8 different countries (England, Ireland, Sweden, Germany, France, Japan, Korea and the US). First stop was the Camel Farm where you could ride around the paddock on a camel if you wanted, Jo and I decided to give this one a miss. Apparently Australia has the largest population of wild camels in the world (700000 to be precise). We then spent the next 6 hours travelling the 500km to Kings Canyon, we spent our time wisely by sleeping and learning Swedish drinking songs. We did stop off on the way to collect some wood for our camp fire. On arrival we had a short lesson in using a swag (shoes under your pillow so the Dingos don't run off with them in the night) as we sleeping under the stars, no luxury of a tent on this trip. We then lit up the barby and grabbed a couple of beers. We had to be up at first light (5.15am) as we didn't want to walk in the heat of the day so went to bed early (midnight). OK nights sleep. We started the Canyon walk at 7.30am ( 3 hours and 7.5km ) it was excellent as we learnt about flora and fauna, geology and local culture. It was back to the camp ground for lunch before setting off on the next leg of the trip.
