Vang Vieng- nothing pretty about the town but surrounded by beautiful mountains and forest. In the town there are loads of "TV bars", cushions and back to back Friends or The Simpsons. Not very cultured but enjoyable. Its amazing how funny Friends is after a few Beer Lao's. On the second day we decided to go kayaking. we went with an Australian couple who HAVE THEIR OWN KAYAKS so guess who looked like we have never seen one before... Stephen sat at the back and said "I'll steer, you paddle" which was fine until we nearly capsized in the first 30 seconds by hitting the only rock in a 50 metre wide river. We didn't seem able to go in a straight line (or forwards for that matter). The best bit was when the guide said "Whatever you do, don't go into the rapids side-on". Stephen heard ".....Go into the rapids side-on". Well you can imagine. It was fun. We are off to Luang Prabang next. By Bus.
