Well we nearly died today! When looking at the pictures remember we walked it all (apart from the last few sunrise ones). Spectacular scenery and many, many stairs. We've discovered new muscles and new parts of our lungs that didn't want to be discovered!
Started at Jinshanling and walked 6-10km (depending on who you listen to) to Simatai. Soul destroying when you spend 10 minutes walking upstairs wheezing and coughing to find you've only covered 2 metre horizontal distance!
On the way down, Anna found a friend who seemed to think she needed a hand down the precarious bits - and "helped" her down a lot faster than she would have liked.
Wall good in some parts, crumbling in others. We thought it was all over when we saw the suspension bridge. Anna wasn't very happy!
We got up early the next morning, and no the photograph isn't a mistake, it was that dark when we walked back up the wall to watch the sunrise. The sun rose behind the mountains, so unfortunately we didn't see a lot.
A real sense of achievement, especially given coughs and colds and newly recovered feet!! We would recommend it to anyone. Yes, it truely is a Great Wall!
