Day 144 - Friday 23rd July
Having just made it over the border before dark I found myself in the quiet mountain town of La Palma. Beautifully set in the mountains, a lot of the buildings have colourful artwork painted on their walls and I settled down for pizza in a lively local place. The following morning I sadly didn't have time to stay and hopped on a collectivo down to the capital San Salvador, ending up at a small, friendly motel in town. Not a pleasant city but not the hole that people make it out to be. I grabbed a 15p bus across town and explored the markets before stumbling across not only an El Salvador football shirt but the matching shorts as well. ¡Que chevere! And since they had good replicas for only a fiver each I bought a Spanish top in both red and black. Why not?
Not a place to wonder at night I settled down for the night with takeaway El Salvadorian food and the Matrix on tv. Key spot of the day, message written in the dirt of a car - 'i'm reading a book'. Insightful...
