Day 110-117
Well we have truly fallen in love with Chiang Mai! Such a beautiful city and one of our favourite places!
We stayed in the old town for our first 3 nights which Is surrounded by a moat and walls from ages ago (don't know the history but there is some there!) and it's really quaint and pretty with lots of lovely restaurants and markets. The biggest markets are the Saturday and Sunday markets which stretch about a mile in each direction so we spent our Saturdays and Sunday evenings strolling round them, it's much more authentic and cultural up in Chiang Mai and most of the products on sale in the markets are all hand made, full family's come out to help with the market stalls and there's music being played and it's just such a lovely atmosphere!
We then moved on to stay near the night bazar which is much more westernised with McDonald's, Burger King etc and night markets on every night selling more English souvenirs like fake Louis Vuitton handbags and fake football shirts and watches etc! So we enjoyed our stay here too and it was nice to see both sides of Chiang Mai! Jake hates walking round the markets because I always end up spending loads of money on pointless stuff we don't need and will never use! Haha we did manage to get all your prezzies though!
We also had a temple sight seeing Day where we walked around the city visiting the temples, it's been 33 degrees here each day without a cloud in the sky so I made the ultimate school boy error and even after spending over 7 weeks in Asia I still went in short shorts and a strappy top! A big no no for temples!! We didn't realise until we walked all the way to the first temple so there was no going back! Luckily we can still walk around them and in the grounds we just can't go inside! To go inside you need to be in long pants and and have your shoulders covered! So I broke both rules! Haha so we just had to walk around outside and I just had to cope with the Thai looking at me like I'm some sort of prostitute walsing round in no clothes! The temples were amazing though and so beautiful!
Yesterday we visited the elephant sanctuary and it was absolutely AMAZING!!!! Didn't stop sobbing! We got to feed the elephants, walk with them through the jungle, watch them have a mud bath and then we could get in the river to with them to wash it all off! It was such a magical day and they were so graceful and clever! one of the highlights of our trip for sure! I'll post loads of pics although you've probably already seen them all on Facebook!
Today we fly to Bangkok! We don't fly until 4:30pm (it's currently 11am) so we have abit of a hanging round day but then we head to luxury! So looking forward to being able to sunbathe around a pool!
Missing you all loads! Can't wait to see you all! And can't wait to get my real ring!!!!
Lots of love xxxxx
