So we hired our car (a dodge calibur if you were wondering!) and set off from boston to cape cod. A pretty uneventful journey, accompanied by really bad radio stations!! We arrived at our hostel about two hours later after finally navigating our way out of Boston and booked ourselves into the hostel, which in 2004 was voted number 1 hostel in north America. so there we were unpacking our things, and i decided that id like a shower, so i pulled the wash bag out from under the bed to discover we werent just sharing the room with boys and girls, oh no, we had another six legged roomie. Thats right, we saw our first hostel cockroach, which we promptly squashed!!! Then it was off to the beach (which we could see from the hostel) as the sun was beating down and we needed to work on our tans so of we went, all of a 5 minute walk from the hostel. we spent a couple of hours at the beach then went back to get ready to go into Provincetown for some food.
Well, well, well. Provincetown. Not quite the little historical town we were expecting. Naively wandering if all of the rainbow flags meant anything we soon had the answer thrust into our face. It is quite possible that the entire homosexual community in america has set up residence in Provincetown, and they werent afraid to show it either!! We walked around town marvelling at the sights (and there were many to marvel at!!) before we went to get food. The town itself is very nice indeed, infact its fabulous darling!!! We got home after our meal to find that the key we were given to get back into the hostel didnt fit the lock, so there we were on a beautiful night, clear skies, filled with stars, stuck on the porch being eaten alive by the thousands of bugs camped outside while we waited for someone to let us in.
So the next day we arose early excited by the prospect of spending the day at the beach in the hot temperatures weve gotten used to, so we whipped on our speedos and went running out of the hostel.......... into pouring rain. It was pissing it down. English weather had finally caught up with us. So what did we do? Did we say hell to the weather were going out anyway?? no. We sulked all day in a mardy because the only rainy day was our first day at the beach. Typical. That night we bumped into a really cool girl called liz from nottingham who was travelling for a year aswell, so we had a friend to mope around with that night.
The following day all three of us went into Provincetown and hired bikes (me and kel got a tandem, i suspect because we'd been for a run that morning and kel didnt want to pedal) and went for a ride around the coastal trail which was really really cool. And it wasnt raining. The sun even managed to pop out for a bit for us! Bonus, though not for kels shoulders who got burnt! That night we all decided we'd brave the nightlife of Provincetown. So we went to a really nice thai restaurant (surrounded by gay couples having intimate meals). Then we asked our (gay obviously) waiter where was a good place to go and have drinks, he was really friendly and told us of a caberet show to go to and a place for drinks after. So we went to see Cashetta, the worlds only drag magician apparently! The show was really funny and liz got pulled up on stage by Cashetta which was hilarious. Although we cant repeat any of the jokes because of our younger audience but you can imagine the sort of thing. Afterwards we went to a bar that was having karaoke, hosted by you guessed it, another grag queen. Lets just say that there were an interesting bunch of people in there, including a Fabio lookalike and the butchest woman we will ever see which all made for a really good night, and the drag queen herself even came and sat with us after the show for a drink which was really cool. The only bad thing was that everywhere shuts at 1am which is a bit rubbish, but we could always go to a pizza place open till 3am where all the single gay people went to hook up if they were unsuccessful during the night. We declined, and a really friendly local called us a cab and off we went (a little early for our liking) home. A fantastic night was had though!!
So its the 20th today and its our last night in cape cod, and we just had some free bbq food but its a boring save money early night so were not going out as weve got to get up early to get the hire car back to boston then its off to the big apple tomorrow!!!
If there is nowhere to upload photos in New York then im cancelling this whole trip and coming home to show them you all!!! Hopefully there will be somewhere!! We'll get them up as soon as we can!! Take care one and all, love Ste and Kel xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
