Hello! And a special hello to nan and grandad tuppence!! I heard that you are reading my blog xx
Vang Veing!! What to say!! Well! It was loud busy and fun! Tonnes of people drunk from tubing which is always great to watch! Tubing is brill! Basically you hire the inner tyre of a tractor and float down the river! But the catch is that you have to avoid the rocks whilst holding a bucket of alcohol purchased from the many bars along the sides of river! To pull you into the bars they throw ropes at you which hook round your tube sort of like fishing?? When your at the bars there are many many free shots of whiskey and lots of spray paint and pens to deface yourself with, this also comes along with many string bracelets and headbands! If your brave there are bungy rope swings, huge slides and zip wires!! A crazy boys dream! Seeing as most of the people on vang veing are injured and some people don't make it from the river I gave most of the adventurous ones a miss and opted for the smaller deep ones!! After several drinks tubing was a dream! Bar the rocks! Few bumps and bruises from them!
The best thing about tubing is meeting so many people! Unfortunatly I made friends with people who were going the next day so I missed out on the night life really! But I had my own room for the first time in ages so I was happy of a good rest!
I am currently on an island called don det which is part of the 4000 islands at the bottom of Laos. I travelled here from the 28th to the 1st over night on a sleeper bus. It wasn't the best journey of my life along with leeks in the air con and nearly falling off the bunkbeds it was just very very long! All worth it though! This island is beautiful secluded and very warm!!
On the bus I met a girl called lizzie she is the same age and only lives in northwich so not far at all!! We get on well and we are sharing a room here! Well it's actually a little bungalow with beautiful views of sunrise over the river and sunsets over the buffalo filled field. What more can you ask for!!
On the day we arrived we found the bungalow ok and made some friends on the way a swedish girl called AJ, two English girls Georgie and Alice. In the day we rented bikes and cycled to the beach on the island paddled about until it was nearly sunset and then came back for a chilled sunset on the balcony!! Nice! That night we had food and then went to a reggae bar to chill i got really tired and went home with AJ. It was an interesting ride home lumps and bumps that were impossible to see in te dark thankgod i brought my wind up torch! Lizzie came home later and had an encounter with the water buffalo!!
The next day my friend from vang veing Kylie-Ann came to the island, so after getting here settled in we all went tubing again (along with a new friend Annette who we met on the way)! This time it was different same tyres still a river but like everything else on the island it was completely chilled! One error I made was I didn't eat before we left so I ended up paddling to get to the shore faster! On the way we saw local children collecting water from the river, buffalo bathing lots of fishermen and beautiful views of all the little islands!!
Every night on the island there is bonfires on the beach where everyone gathers when the bars shut to have a few drinks and relax under the stars!
I met a nice Swedish guy on the beach who advised us to take bikes over to the other island joined to ours don kong, as it has amazing waterfalls and fresh water dolphins! Some facts - the waterfall here on don kong has the most mass of water passing through it than any other in the world! The dolphins are some of the last fresh water dolphins in the world!!
So we headed off on our trip at the hottest time in the day!! Idiots lol! But we were all creamed up and had lots of water!! So we peddled to the bridge where you pay to cross over and from there its not long to the waterfalls! I must say I was HOT!! Really hot!! But the views were amazing!! I have never seen to much gushing water from every direction it was huge!! We took sone photos and headed to a close beach which was near to the bottom. We all were so glad to see cool water!! It was heaven one of my favourite place on earth at the time! We had to be careful to stay on the ledge of the water because the current was so strong five people have died this year being swept into it! No thanks!
Next we headed to the dolphins it was about 4 by the time we got there one of the girls tyres popped on the way!! Nightmare! We got to the beach which was beautiful, and we bargained a good price to get on a boat to see the dolphins. We were on these tiny very unstable boats but wow!! We were in-between Cambodia and Laos the were these crazy bent trees and beautiful landscapes and even if we hadn't seen dolphins it would have been worth it!
The boat dropped us off at a cluster of rocks in the middle of the river and we waited to see if there were dolphins! Surely enough the emerged in the distance! The swam dived and splashed about ahead of us! The sun was getting low now and another set of people joined with a guitar and serenaded us as we were in ore of the elegant dolphins! What a perfect day!!
Once we hit the shore it was peddle time! We wanted to get back before dark so the pressure was on! We cycled ahead while Georgie with the flat tyre walked back with one of the other girls!
So that's all for tonight! We are thinking of having a few drinks as it's the last day together as a group as some people are Ieaving tomorrow but I decided to have another day as its so gorgeous!! Sunbathing is on the cards!! I think were swimming to an island with beaches! Only in peoples dreams! But my reality at the moment!! Xxx
