We got up pretty early today as we were heading to Litchfield national park and we wanted to beat the huge tour coaches as it is a bank holiday weekend so everyone will be out!
We went to so many waterfalls and each one different to the last and amazing in their own ways.
The first falls, Florence Falls, was a short walk along the board walk, but it was dead quiet and we were the first ones here! I took the opportunity to take a fair few pics before anyone else came. The sun hadn't quite reached the falls here so it was pretty chilly! There were quite a few small caves around which was fun to swim into and they had two separate falls. One higher and another smaller more powerful falls. We left to head to our second falls as it got much busier there!
The second falls was Buley Rockhole which was like a cascade with mini falls and had a deep section to jump from! It was so good to chill out in the pools and the sun was out too and it was getting pretty warm!
We left after an hour as there was more and more people coming so we headed to our next waterfall. The pool was huge and the waterfall was pretty high! I did swim out quite far but then got a little bit panicky due to worry if there is a croc in the water, even though there was at least 30 other people in there!
We luckily missed most of the crowds thanks to Josh for getting us on the road quickly!
Our last stop was going to see the termite mounds, which were huge! The first termite mounds we saw was cathedral termites their mounds was huge and looked like a castle more than anything! The second mounds was magnetic termites, they are amazing architectural feats complete with arches, tunnels, chimneys, insulation and nursery chambers. The mounds are aligned north to south to minimise the exposure to the sun. Unfortunately scientist don't really know too much about termites so it was just puzzling to why they do what they do!
We headed back to Darwin via Charles Darwin national park which had some old bunkers from the war, which had some artefacts and stories. The best was the naked gunman who heard enemy planes and went out to shoot them down in his trousers. After the fighting had finished he had only realised he had lost his trousers!!!! Whoops!
We went to our hostel which was rubbish compared to our last hostel closer to the city centre, got washed and dressed and met up with the two other couples from our tour. We left pretty early as we wanted a good night sleep as we needed to get breakfast from Woolies! We headed back to the hostel for a decent night sleep, minus bugs and spiders!!!
