Terrible night last night, we got robbed twice! The first was when Steph payed a slightly mental lady $12 for one of the worst homemade beanie hats you will ever see. The second time, however, was a little more serious. After a midnight trip to the dunny I couldn't get back to sleep as I was convinced I could hear someone lurking around outside our tent. Being in a free campsite surrounded by people I dismissed it as my imagination (or the harmless mental beanie hat lady wandering about). The noise continued so I summoned up my courage and, staying tucked up in my sleeping bag, timidly banged on the side of the tent to warn off "the intruder". Suitably scared he disappeared and I got off to sleep ... Or so I thought. Steph awoke oblivious and was surprised to find I hadn't slept well. When I told her it sounded like someone had been in the tent she dismissed me as stupid, adamant that no one could have gotten in without making a racket unzipping the doors. On leaving our cosy sleeping compartment and entering the porch/lounge we were met by a terrible scene ... our garlic bread that Steph had so lovingly made had been disturbed!!! The tin foil that had neatly covered it the night before lay in shreds on the floor and a solitary piece lay half eaten on the floor! Shocked and disbelieving we began our Jonathan Creek style investigation into how this had happened. Within minutes we had solved the case - a bloody bird had smelled our delicious garlic bread (not sure how, they don't even have noses) and pecked a hole in the roof to get to it. Then he'd pecked another bloody hole in the side of the tent to make his escape. We were dealing with a real professional here. Worse than the holes in the tent was the fact that we had to dispose of the bread, not knowing what booby traps the burglar had left. Some gaffa tape is now on our to buy list and we've got our fingers crossed that it doesn't rain for a few days!
