Stan and I are big kids and we can take the day off if we want, and we did. All in the heck we accomplished today was laundry, make a trip to town via the 45-minte bus ride, have a happy hour visit at sunset with our landlords and nothing more. Cairns is not a large city. It is a bit of a throw-back to years ago. It remind us of a Ft Lauderdale or a the City of Montego Bay. It was busy, quaint, international, touristy, and a bit Outback, if that is imaginable. We did have Poplova at lunch today, finally, and it was very nice. The Internet says it is the most popular Aussie dessert. The locals say that is true or at least it was true in the 1970's. We have spent the last five weeks looking for it, but after finally finding it we agreed it was worth it. In town, we shopped for Aussie souvenirs. We found a few choice ones and I am very happy with the items we picked up.
All that is left for today is packing for our flight to Sydney tomorrow -- the last destination on this trip down under. While I am ready to see our beloved America and to be much more close to our girls, other family and friends, realizing there is only five or six more days remaining on this journey makes me a little sad.
Yesterday, March 19, was Cody's birthday. We called her this morning while it as still her birthday in USA and caught her coming home from work. We were so happy to catch her on her special day. She sounded so good and so happy. This is to say it once more -- Happy Birthday, Coco!
