Stephan said there was absolutely nothing to do at Goulburn and he was right on the money. That's ok though. We woke to a steady light and cool mist outside, so no exercise walkie today! We took our time getting packed and ready and then stopped for the complimentary continental breakfast in the restaurant. If you want a full breakfast, it is available, but all the old folks like us opt for the freebie. We greeted the chef because he was there and cooked our dinner the night before. He somehow recognized that we were Americans and steered us directly toward the vegemite. Believe it or not, we have been here over two weeks already and this is the first time we have seen vegemite. He explained that Americans don't like it because we try to slather too much on our toast, but all we need is one teaspoon. We had to try it. I found that it is a little like a good Martini or Brie, one must develop a taste for the stuff. But, check, done that. He gave us a bunch of it to take home in case any of you would like to try it.
The rest of the day was spent driving in to Sydney, finding our airport hotel, returning the rental car and figuring out how we are going to get the bottles of wine we have purchased into New Zealand tomorrow. Thankfully, we learned we are within legal limit.
We didn't see any wildlife on our drive today but we did see five sky-divers zoom down right in front of the highway and our car. That will wake you up.
The scenery was definitely different from any we've seen in Australia so far. Today the landscape was very green, with hills and rocky canyons.
There is a big Mardi Gras Parade tonight in Sydney - most Sydney city streets will be closed for the event - it's a big deal. On the one hand we'd like to go downtown to see it, on the other; I'd like just one good quiet night's sleep before our shuttle pick-up tomorrow at 6 am.
