Up and out from the hotel at around 8am so we had plenty of time to get to the airport. The journey there was really easy and checkin was fine except for the booking booths giving us emergency exit seats and faffing around with changing that, to be fair it was minimal. The flight to Alice Springs was good and the view out of the window was breathtaking in it's emptiness and desolation. It is a little like the surface of Mars but with trees.
When we arrived in Alice we explored the possibility of going into the town but really it was too expensive for the time we would have had there and we both we still not 100% well. The time went surprisingly well and we soon boarded our flight for Ayre's Rock Resort.
I don't think anything can prepare you for the sight of Uluru from the plane. The terrain is flat, red and desolate and then in the middle there is this huge rock, just sitting there being impressive.
We landed and checked into the hotel - 3 beds ! What is it with these places, they know there are 4 people and book us into a 3 bed room. Anyway we changed rooms and then took the girls for a swim in an unsurprisingly warm pool. I chatted to an older chap who was out visiting his late wife's family and was travelling on his own between.
After swimming we changed and took a walk to the lookout for a view of Uluru before heading back for a BBQ dinner.
After dinner the girls enjoyed looking at the stars and dancing to the music.
Some of the comments :
Far too many stars to kiss in one night
Heaps and heaps of stars
Is that space ? where are the spaceships ?
Why are they not twinkling ?
