We are getting practised at the up and out routine so we were on the road by 9:30. Looking at the map today was going to be a long driving day so we thought we should limit our stops to get in at a sensible time. We are finding stops are taking a considerable chunk of time when you add it the act of putting on removed shoes, placing children in car seats and the oooh stones/shells/stick factors.
Our first stop was at the Moereki boulders which are amazing and frankly a bit weird. They are just round and according to the girls were dinosaur eggs, although I think that idea was firmly planted in their minds by David. We had a lovely play on the beach here followed by a nice drink in a café. This took us until lunchtime so we headed on to try and find a suitable play for lunch which was helped by nice weather. We headed into Oamaru and although we were tempted by many things the play park called loudest and we let the girls have a long play after lunch before we headed onwards.
The journey to Twizel was broken by a brief stop at a dam lookout which was disappointing and some Maori rock drawings which were fascinating. We arrived in Twizel at 4:30pm and checked into our hotel, the weather was frankly not much use for viewing Mount Cook so we did some washing and relaxed. This evening we went out for dinner and I had a seafood planner which gave a whole new meaning to in batter, I had battered mussels, crab stick etc etc.
The girls both had a fabulous time on the playparks and as always wanted one last swing.
