After a quick flight from Singapore to Krabi - just less than couple of hours, i arrived at what is recognised as the future Phuket in Thailand. On arrival, i sympathised with a Kiwi backpacker and agreed to share a taxi to the resort - but like so many people you meet, its only for few hours, sharing experience and then we go our own way!
Here i would spend a week enjoying the beach life and doing few activities. As it s started to be the end of high season, i was able to find some really good accomodation at very reasonable price in a nice resort - 300m from the beach! the resort was made of individual bungalows and a large black tiled swimming pool in the middle of dense vegetation! I would spend lots of morning by the pool - well, in fact everyday! and then go to the local gym for some workout.
weather was just so nice despite being too hot during the afternoon - lots of people were easily noticed by their red lobster look - glad i wasnt one of them! food was just too yummy that i even decided to spent an afternoon getting some Thai cooking lesson, having to eat the 6 dishes i made! LOL the only problem was that i just had lunch in a restaurant an hour before! LOL so beware, it will be Thai food the next time i cook for everyone...
on one day, i spend the morning sea kayaking the mangrove - which was really amazing - with some great landscape. on another one, i took a long boat to reach some secluded beaches that were so beautiful, you wanted to stay and camp on the beach.
then i did some elephant riding for an afternoon which was a laugh, these are huge animal - and i can confirm that there poo is proportionate to their size! HUGE!!! and green...
Krabi is a nice resort and very family orientated, i surely will come back here some days as people are really friendly and you feel welcome wherever you go. on top of that, its cheap!
the area didnt seems too affected by the tsunami of 2 years ago, and the local economy is only recovering now - only unusual sights i will remember on this subject is that one of the tourist had the date of the tsunami tattooed on his lower back! unusual one but it has obviously some meaning to this person.
after 7 days relaxing, time to go and meet John again, but this time in Japan!
