We had a shorter run today that planned. We heard that the marina we had planned to go to (Cuba Landing Marina) had very shallow water getting into it. So we decided to stop at Pebble Isle Marina, which is 20 miles closer. Another advantage of Pebble Isle Marina is they have a courtesy car. Last night Mark (Kay Dee) dropped his phone in the water, and having access to a car was very helpful so he could get a new phone.
The Tennessee River and Kentucky Lake are beautiful. The trees are just starting to change color, and the cliffs rising along the river edge are incredible. In the winter months around 150 Bald Eagles live here, with around 20 pairs living here year round. We did see a couple as we cruised the river. The memorable site was the old L&N railroad bridge. Half of the bridge still stands and just ends in the middle of the river. Just beyond the railroad bridge in the middle of the river, is what remains of the Old Danville Grain Elevator. The story is that the building was so well built, that several attempts to destroy it before they created the lake failed, so they left it standing. Now it is a very popular fishing spot.
After arriving at the marina and getting settled, we went with Mark & Karen to get a new phone. We also took advantage of having the car to go out for pizza. The pizza at Tony's Pizza in Pebble Isle has the best pizza we have had since leaving home.
Tomorrow's forecast is calling for rain and possible thunderstorms. We made tentative plans to leave at 6:45am (First daylight) but we would check the weather at 6:30 and make the final call. Because we stopped so early today, tomorrow's trip will be an additional 20 miles.
