- July 5th - July 13 Day 42 - 50
- Kingston Ontario
The saga continues. With the help of a local Harbor Host we were able to find a new mechanic, Brayden. Brayden has a mobile mechanic service, while he is not a "Marine Mechanic" he seems to be a very good mechanic. To start with he responds when you call or text him, he shows up when he says he will, and keeps you informed during the whole process. Had we found about him in the beginning we would have been out of Kingston much quicker.
Going on Kevin's diagnosis Brayden did not want to put the motor back together without replacing the two injectors that Kevin said were bad. With the motor apart Brayden could not diagnose much. Brayden came to the boat on Sunday afternoon, so I had to wait until Monday to order parts. If we were in New Jersey I would have had the injectors by Tuesday, but the fastest I could get them was Thursday. Brayden agreed to come back Thursday to install them.
Tuesday morning I rode to the Caterpillar Dealer to get the gaskets to reassemble. The I spent most of the morning putting as much of the motor as I could. This was to save both time and money on Thursday. The injectors arrived at the Caterpillar Dealer Thursday morning, by 7am. The Caterpillar dealer was 12 Kilometers (7.5 Miles), so for the second time I headed off on my bike to get the parts.
As promised Brayden came Thursday afternoon, to install the injectors and finish putting the motor back together.
Unfortunately the injectors did not fix the problem. The port motor is still smoking heavily and will only reach 1400RPM. It is better than is was and it runs enough to allow us to get back to New Jersey. Brayden has assured us, that running the motor the way it is will not harm the motor, it will just burn more fuel and smoke A LOT!!!!
Friday morning we will be leaving at first light.
GOOD BYE CANADA!!!!

Rick D. Sorry to hear you’re still having engine issues. Safe travels.
Gene Lillie One of my “Black smoke with fuel smell) was addressed by cleaning the air filters. Any chance that could be your issue? I was told that a lack of air causes the combustion to be weakened or delayed allowing fuel out the exhaust.
