GOOD BYE CANADA!!!!!!
I can't tell you how good it feels to be underway again, even if we have to limp along. With the condition of the port motor, we can only do between 7 and 8 knots. When the motor is running right we can do between 16 to 20 knots. Most of the time we have been running between 8 and 9 knots, so it is not too bad for now. Some of the longer runs will be slow and tedious but at least we can get back to New Jersey.
Crossing the border by boat was very easy, before leaving Canada I downloaded the Customs and Border Patrol app called ROAM. With the ROAM app, you enter all the information about the boat, the travelers on the boat and copies of our passports. When we got in cell phone range of the US border I opened the app, and marked us as arriving from Canada. Ten minutes later I got a phone call from a Border Patrol agent, he confirmed all of the information I put in the app, and we were done. Five minutes later I got a email with our "Clearance Number"
It was a very long day, between traveling 75 miles and going through 8 locks we were exhausted when we docked. Most of the locks were open and ready for us, and we were able to pull right into the lock. Sometimes you have to wait for boats going the other direction to pass through the lock, that can add 30 minutes or more to locking through.
We are going to travel long days to get back. There are a couple of reasons for this, first we are both anxious to get home to get the boat fixed properly, second we are trying to cut down on our expenses. (Kingston cost us a lot more money than we planned on.) Bu traveling longer days, we will spend less on dockage an the way back.
Arriving in Brewerton we choose to go to the free town dock. The guide books said there was no electric or water, but we can do two or three nights without them, We were pleasantly surprised to find electric on the dock. It was great to have air conditioning without running the generator.
Tomorrow we are going to leave at 5:30am again. Let's see how far we can get.
