It seems like the marinas are about 50 miles apart, so the last few travel days all seem the same time and distance. What is not the same are the conditions Lake Erie. She has so many personalities and even with the forecast you never know what it is really going to be like until you are out there. Today there were some waves but not bad at all.
As soon as we started docking, it started raining. That has been a reoccurring theme on this trip. It also rain most of the afternoon. Because of the rain, we made plans to take an Uber or Taxi to dinner with Nick & Ginger (Ginger Gale). Much to our dismay neither are available in Sandusky. We ask the Marina Manager if she knew of any taxi's in the area, and to our surprise, she said no, but here take the company car, just have it back by 8am tomorrow. Not only were we able to get to dinner, but we ran a couple of other errands done as well.
Sandusky is also the home of Cedar Point Amusment park, where the tallest wooden roller coaster in the US is located.
Tuesday Nick & Ginger and Angel & I took a ferry (I know why take a ferry when we have our own boat) to Kelly Island. We spent the day bike riding, playing miniature golf and exploring the island.
The year round population is about 250 people, but it swells to a couple thousand in the summer.
One of the coolest sites on the island is a glacier grove that is several hundred feet long.
We also decided to stay at Sandusky until Thursday. This was a combination of the predicted lake conditions and I needed to get a order from Amazon delivered on Wednesday.
Wednesday the four of us hopped back on the ferry and headed to Put In Bay Island. Put In Bay is the party town on Lake Erie. We met Mark & Karen (Kay Dee) and Dave & Kim (Sweet Haven) at the marina they were staying at, and again spent the day there riding around on bikes.
Thursday we are heading to Middle Bas Island, and after that we will be leaving Lake Erie and heading to the Detroit River.
