We had a short pleasant ride from Annapolis to Sue Island and Baltimore Yacht Club. We prefer not to travel on weekends, especially holiday weekends but sometimes we end up doing it. For a holiday weekend the boat traffic was not too bad, but we did get waked pretty good a couple of times. It was still a very pleasant ride and the weather was perfect. Last year Baltimore Yacht Club was supposed to be our second stop on Great Loop Adventure, but the weather did not cooperate so we stayed at Delaware City.
Leaving Annapolis we said goodbye to Ed & Cathy (Just Another Day) as we probably will not see them again. We have enjoyed their company the last couple of stops.
Baltimore Yacht Club has their Opening Day Weekend, Memorial Day Weekend every year, and members of Bordentown Yacht Club have been coming to their opening day for many many years. When we do come down by boat, we always win an award for the club that traveled the farthest by boat to get there. It is about 110 miles by boat between the clubs. This year I traveled 5936 miles to attend their Opening Day. Mark & Karen (Kay Dee) came with us to enjoy the celebration. (We convinced them to come with us, with two nights of free dockage) Matt & Ilene (Inconseavable) also came from Bordentown by boat and Melanie (Out Of The Blue) drove down by car.
It is always enjoyable to come to Baltimore, their members are always welcoming and very happy to see us. This year no exception, and everyone we met wanted to hear about the Great Loop.
Saturday night the seven of us had our traditional steak dinner. We all chip in and buy steaks, and bring side dishes for a great steak dinner. Thank you Matt for procuring the steaks! Baltimore Yacht Club offers a buffet dinner, but we enjoy having our steak dinner. Saturday night the officers of Baltimore put on a skit, but this year we could not tell what the skit was supposed to be about, after the skit a local band Oracle played in the club house. Normally it is one of the highlights for us, but unfortunately the band did not come until Looper's Midnight (9PM) and Angel and I both decided to call it a night before the band even started.
Sunday is the Opening Ceremony, All of the visiting clubs and officers are introduced, then the officers of Baltimore Yacht Club are introduced. This year they had a presentation of a Flag for Each Branch of the Service. All of the individuals present the flags were veterans. After the flag ceremony and the introduction are down, the club fires of their cannon, and announces that their boating season has "officially" opened. Then they had out various awards. It was a great feeling to go up and receive the award for distance furthest traveled, knowing we traveled over nautical miles to get there.
Monday Matt & Ilene headed back to Bordentown, and normally we would have followed them and returned home in one day. We are going to take five days to get there. We are in no hurry to finish this trip and we have a couple of places we want to stop at and some people to see before we get there.
I do have to apologize for the lack of photos in the last couple of stops. As we get closer to home and travel to places we have been several times, I forget to take photos.
Our next stop is Bohemia Bay Yacht Harbor.
