Barkley State Park was a ghost town. We arrived at the marina, fueled up and went to our slip. We had hoped to get some minor groceries at the marina store. They advertised that they had a well stock store. When we asked about it, they told us "After Labor day, we do not stock anything!" The two restaurants on site were also closed for the season.

When we asked about a grocery store they told us it was about a one hour bike ride. Karen (Kay Dee) had thought that the town was about a 10 minute bike ride away. Oh well we made it work.

After settling in, Mark, Karen, Angel and I hopped on our bikes for the 12 mile round trip ride to Dollar General. Google Maps, said the ride included moderate hills. THEY WERE WRONG. The hills were more than moderate, and all we did was go up hills and down hills for the entire ride. Even with us pedaling the electric bikes struggled up the hills, but they flew down the hills. The ride to the park entrance was about four miles, and then google maps had us riding along a 4 lane highway to the Dollar General. We were happily surprised to find a brand new bike trail along the highway.

Monday we headed early to explore the park. We wanted to be back before the forecasted rain at 2pm. The park offers lots of activities such as horseback riding, skeet shooting, golf, and a beach. They also have over 7 miles of mountain bike trails. We tried to go skeet shooting, but of course they shut down after Labor Day. We rode to the stables to check out the horseback riding, but they looked like they had not been open in years. The beach was also closed for the season, but that did not stop us. They had gates across the road, but being the rebels that we are; we snuck under the gates and headed for the beach. We were not the only rebels; there was a family playing on the beach with kids swimming. After the beach we went to the golf course, which was open with a driving range. None of us are golf players but we did hit a bucket of balls on the driving range.

The highlight (LOL) of the park was going out to lunch after the driving range. We finally found somewhere to eat in the park that was open. They had a snack bar and "bar" at the golf course. They had chips, crackers, candy bars, and hot dogs. The "bar" was a refrigerator with Miller Lite and White Claws. I can't complain lunch for Angel & I was a whopping $9.

After the golf course we found a small "resort" that had a convenience store. They did not have much more candy and chips, but they did make sandwiches. While it was too late for us, we did find out, you could order groceries from town, and they would deliver them the next day.

While there was not much to do in the off season, the park is beautiful and we enjoyed it.

Our next stop is back to Green Turtle Bay.
