Hello!
Well we arrived in Noosa 16th December ready for our canoe trip! We got picked up by a mini bus and got taken to Gagaju bush camp via the supermarket and bottle shop for our 3 days of supplies! We had a good group again, Dale and Charlotte were again on the same trip as us. We arrived at the camp early afternoon and we had a look around. It was very basic with wood huts and tents for us to sleep in but it was also quite cool as there was a big communal area with sofas, a tv, a large kitchen, hammocks and a bar area all in a wooden sort of shack covered in tarpaulin. There were a lot of insects in the bush camp which we didn't like all that much, including big spiders, poisonous toads etc! We spent the 1st day chilling out as the canoeing started the next day. We had a few drinks in the evening with our group, there was also a fire going which was nice to sit around.
The next morning was our 1st day of canoeing. We moved out of our hut, stored our bags and set off downstream for 3.5km. It was pretty easy going as the current was with us. We had heard stories that there were supposed to be crocodiles in the water but thankfully there were only small sharks!! Obviously harmless ones!! We got to the spot we were supposed to be at after an hour and then set off for the beach. It was a round trip of 5km walk which was nice and we spent a couple of hours at the beach before settng off back canoeing upstream back to the bush camp. We got back and set up our tents for the night. In the evening we played some darts and had a couple of drinks.
The next morning we packed up our tents and loaded them into the canoe ready for our 7km trip upstream. It was hard work as we were canoeing against the current and we were very tired when we eventually arrived at the campsite. We set up camp and had a relaxing afternoon before heading to the village pub for an evening meal which was well deserved! We had a relatively early night as we had to be up early to canoe back to bush camp.
We got up at 6.30am ish to set off back to Gagaju bush camp ready for the next group to take our canoes. It was a lot easier as the current was with us and we did it in half the time! We arrived back for around 9ish and we got the shuttle back to Noosa. We were staying for another night and so we checked in and had a very relaxing day. Charlotte and I went for a swim in the pool. In the evening we had a couple of drinks and then Jo, a German guy on our canoe trip, stayed out for a few more in the bar.
The canoe trip was really good and we are so glad we actually did it!
