Hello everyone, well we had an amazing time on the Whitsunday Islands.
We arrived in Airlie Beach on Saturday 6th December from Magnetic Island and had a couple of nights before we set off on our 2 day/2 night sailing trip around the Whitsunday Islands. We arrived at our hostel late afternoon and checked in, it was a pretty big hostel and reminded me a little bit of Beachcomber Island. We went to get some goon from the bottle shop and had a few drinks on the steps infront of our hostel before we went to bed. The next day we had a very relaxing day, staying around the lagoon near the beach. Again we couldn't swim in the sea because of the jellyfish. There was a Carol service on the beach that night which we went to, it was strange as it was so hot! We had an early night making Christmas cards!
On Monday we put our bags into the storage facilities and set off to meet our group for our Whitsunday trip. We were a little bit apprehensive as we had booked to go onto the party boat and we are not as 'party' as we used to be! It turned out to be fine. We had to get into groups of 6 to share a room with and we were lucky to be sat near 2 couples who were really nice and we ended up being in a room together; an English couple, Charlotte & Dale and an Irish couple Aaron & Carla. We got on the boat around 3ish and sailed to South Molle Island where we were going to be staying for the next 2 nights. The island was gorgeous and as soon as we got there we went and had a swim in the large swimming pool before tea. We had tea and then started playing some drinking games in our 6 and with another Irish couple Brian and Kate. It didn't last very long as the bar ran out of beer and wine pretty much as soon as we got there! We ended up having a pretty early night!
The next day we were up early to set sail. Our first stop was Whitehaven Beach after around 2 hours on the water. We put our lovely stinger suits on and jumped into the water and swam to shore. The sand was so white and so fine, there is a very high content of silicon which makes it white. It was so beautiful, the water was crystal clear too and it was very hot! We stayed there for a while before getting back on the boat and going to our next stop which was a snorkelling spot. We saw lots of fish. We swam back to the boat and as we were doing so the water turned into a brown colour and started to smell really bad! Everyone was covered in this like brown stuff which apparently is a natural protection against the sun from the coral! We all had to be hosed down on the boat! We got back to South Molle Island later afternoon and went in the pool. After tea we had a few drinks in the bar again but it shut at 10pm (talk about being a party island!)
The next day we left South Molle Island early and sailed to another snorkelling spot about 2 hours away and it was so hot! The crew on the boat had this silly game where if anyone said the word 'mine' they had to do 10 pushups, well we all just refused! It was too hot and the deck burnt your hands and feet. We arrived at the spot and started snorkelling. There was an Island and a beach that instead of going around the island it came out from the island into the ocean. There were a lot of turtles which was cool to sea and we ended up swimming with them in the sea! After this we set off back to Airlie Beach. Matt and I had a bit of time before we had to get our bus to Hervey Bay so we chilled around the lagoon with Dale and Charlotte!
