We arrived here late last night after a particularly gruelling 24 hours and a lot of lessons learnt! The flight from London to Miami was pleasant enough with a sufficient amount of chick flicks to get me through. Arriving, and leaving Miami, however, was not as simple as we may have hoped! After standing in line for about an hour we got to passport control and explained we had no US address as we were leaving later that day to catch our connecting flight to Lima. "Where is your proof?" asked the guard. We had forgotten to bring any proof that we would be leaving the US within the next two hours and the passport officer seemed to think I was "up to no good!" We were stuck at the passport gate trying to convince him we were telling the truth for over half an hour. I wanted to remind that after the amount of time he had made us queue for, I was practically a US citizen, but assumed that wouldn´t be to my advantage! Luckily he decided to believe us, stamped us through and we made it just in time to grab a coffee before catching our connecting flight to Lima, Peru......
Which was awful!! American Airlines have absolutely no idea about how to get you from one continent to another without making you cry atleast 4 times! The food was awful, the entertainment was awful and the staff were awful. But, we were so tired we fell asleep almost immediately and Dan woke me about 3 hours later to show me we were flying directly above an extremely vibrant lightning storm taunting the Atlantic. It was amazing, each bolt illuminating the sky and ocean alike. We watched intently for about an hour before landing in Lima.
At the airport we jumped in a taxi and gave the address of our hostel at which we arrived about 30 minutes later. It soom became apparent that the taxi driver got a green coloured "thank you" if he managed to get us to stay at a particular hostel, so dumped us at the wrong place and va va voomed off!! Luckily we managed to walk about 10 minutes before coming to our hostel and checked into the friendliest, most organised place we could have imagined! Jesus, the guy who checked us in, showed us to our room and promptly opened a couple of Brahma beers. I don´t think I´ve ever loved anyone liked I loved him at that moment!
And so we´ve been strolling around Mira Flores since, finding our bearings and meeting some great people. It all begins in two days when we check in and meet our tour guides in the capital city.
Thought of the Day: Irony truly is cruel - I spend 365 days a year trying, mostly unsuccessfully, to engage Daniel in conversation. Get him on a plane when all I want to do is sleep and you can´t shut him up!
