Whilst exploring the island in the morning, we bumped into Liz and Jay ordering breakfast at a cafe. Fortunately they had found a hostel for the night, albeit on the 3rd try! Over breakfast they told us about a hostel they had heard of on the beach front with cheap rooms, so after food we all wandered over to check it out. La Jungla turned out to be a lovely spot and so we borrowed a couple of bike and moved in. Note: cycling with a many kilo pack is no easy feat! Once unpacked, we again took the bikes, riding inland to the giant tortoises breeding centre, where conservationists were working to breed, raise, and return giant tortoises back to the wild. A long process as tortoises live to 150 years and take ages to reach maturity. Along with many tortoises around the place, the reserve featured a small but insightful museum on the decline of tortoises in the wild. Following this we cycled to the other side of town for a spot of diving at the Concha de Perla, an inlet near the port with all sorts of fish, rays and even a sea snake! From here, Lisa, Jay and Liz headed out for dinner and I went to the beach for a swim in the evening instead.
