Craig + Merles Round The World Trip
Well folks, what can I say? I've been too busy to care about worrying about the site!
Since I last made an entry, I have met up with the group for the tour. We met at a nice hotel, then all went out for a meal in some crazy open kitchen, then went to a bar on Khao San Road called Gullivers to watch the England game. The bar was pretty much all English folk too! A few scowls from people when I was cheering T&T! Shocking result though.
The next day, we all went back to the floating market, then up to the katchantaburi province where the film Bridge over the River Kwai was filmed. Some excellent views from the bridge, and also went on the train too. Then it was off to the River Kwai museum and the cemetary. After that we went to a town to catch a train. Had enough time to try some local delicacies at the markets and see another temple before catching the 11 hour train. Didn't get much sleep on it either!
Next day, we took a 2 hour bus journey to a sea port, then a 2.5 hour ferry ride to the Island of Ko Pha Ngan. It's the most beautiful place I've ever seen. Sunny beaches, palm trees, the whole shabang. To get to our resort, it was a hairy 45 minute ride on the back of a pick up truck. Was good fun though. Then we arrived at Baan Puri (I think) resort. Think the beach is something like Thong Nai Rai Sin. It's awesome. After getting into our beach hut (Photo's were at dusk sorry, I'll add better ones), we all met at the local bar and then played Volleyball on the beach. Later that night we all had a good few (Few? More lick bucket!) drinks and played some drinking games. The group is about 14 people (there's a couple from Aberdeen too!) and the guide, and we all get on really well, so nights out are always lively.
Day after that was the diving trip. I decided to go Scuba Diving, and Merle did Snorkelling. This was honestly the best experience in my life. We got 2 dives in all. The first one was all about learning, so each divemaster took 2 people down and held on to their belts to make sure they were OK. I couldn't see much as my mask was steamed up, but it was still good. On the Second dive, the guy I was with felt ill, so it was just me and the instructor. He even decided I was good enough to not be held anymore, and took me down further than is normal for a beginner. I saw some amazing things. I saw a group of Barracuda only 10 feet away, a Grouper fish that must have been 1.5 metres long, held a Hermit Crab, saw Shrimps clean the instructors nails, got stuck in the middle of a shoal of probably over 1 million fish, and also saw so many beutiful fish, the names of which I forget. Think some of them were tropical Wrasse. If I can find out, I'll update you. That night was just a nice meal with Thai dance, then the Brazil game at a local bar.
Today has been another great day too. I went on a jungle trek to see some waterfalls and awesome beaches. It was amazing. We were swimming in rock pools, and showering under the waterfalls. We also stopped at a small hut for something to eat(see the photo of me in the hammock and another). The view was out of this world. The guys there were so relaxed, and cooked up an awesome meal. I now like Menang curry. Merle did not come, so instead she lazed around with the other Aberdonian girl and did pretty much nothing. Tonight is a party in the jungle called the Half Moon Party. It's meant to be great, so I'll hopefully let you know how that goes tomorrow.
Till then, adios.
