Craig + Merles Round The World Trip
Well, I don't even know where to begin!
Lets start with the Cameron Highlands. For the first day, we pretty much did nothing. We went for tea and scones in a local tea room, then later on went for a meal. After that we watched Poseidon on DVD. The next day we did an adventure tour. We got to go trekking through the jungle and on mossy areas. We all got really muddy! Then we visited the highest point in the Cameron Highlands. The view was amazing there. We visited a tea plantation, then had tea and scones there too. After the tea plantation was the butterfly and insect farm. I really liked this bit. We got to hold butterflies, and I even held a scorpion. Nobody else would though. After having a bit of lunch, we visited an aborigine village, and watched them using their blowpipes. I had a go, but was rubbish! We headed home, then had a proper Chinese Steamboat. It was delicious. The jellyfish wasn't great, but everything else was. That night we watched an England game. It was boring!
The next day we left for Kuala Lumpur. the journey was long and boring, but well worth it. KL is an amazing city. In our time there, we visited the chinatown area and the markets at Pentaling street. We were walking down the market area, then there was a loud shout, and about half the stalls were packed up and away within a few minutes. It was very funny! Every night there, we went to a bar calle the Reggae bar. It's a really cool place. People just write messages on the wall for other people to read. The second night there, I had a few too many, so the bus the next day was horrendous! We also saw the Petronas towers which are 452m tall. You only get to go 156m up them though. You go much highr in the KL tower. I think we were close to 300m up. We saw the planetarium and heaps of shopping malls. My digital camera broke here, so I've now got a new one. I got a good deal (I hope), and they even gave me about 45 quid for the broken one.
After KL was Melaka. Melaka is the oldest city in Malaysia, and has heaps of museums and churches to visit. The hotel we stayed in was great, and I managed to hire out a DVD player for 1 pound a night to watch some of my DVD's I'd bought in the markets. Merle and I went for a nice walk, down by the river on the first day before meeting everyone for tea. THat night we needed a rest, so we just watched a film. Next morning we took a riverboat tour. We saw lots of giant lizzards and some really nice looking houses. After the tour, a pile of us went to a water park. It had lots of flumes. Some for tubes, others for sheer speed. I went down one and after the bump, I reckon I was airborne for about 2 seconds. It was quite scary. I thought I'd fallen off! Rich was in his usual self destructive mode, and managed to rip his knee open on the kiddies slide, which had to be shut down. Poor kids! All this from a lifeguard too! We had an excellent bbq that night, then went to a club. Merle and I couldn't be bothered staying late, so we left early and got a decent nights sleep.
THe next morning we left for Singpore. The journey was a short one, which was good. Singpore is another amazing place. There was so much to do, I needed more than 2 days to do it. We visited Little India, went for a nice meal, and also went to the bar that claims to have invented the Singapore Sling cocktail. As it was our last night of the tour, we all went out too, but it ended up being an early night. We also visited Sentosa island. This is pretty much a place for tourists. There are tours, museums, kiddies attractions, beaches etc. We visited the wwII fort and the Merlion exhibition. We got there by the underground, which is amazingly cheap and clean. It was a great way to travel cheaply. That niht we visited an ice bar, but didn't stay too long as the girls were cold! Then we watched Engerlund get beaten. Result! On the last day we paid 2 pounds for a hop on hop off tour of the city to kill time before heading to the airport. Changi airport is rated as the best in the world, and it's easy to see why.
We're now in Darwin, Australia. Nothing to report yet, but I'll let you know as it happens.
