Hi Everyone,
It´s been a while since my last blog entry so thought I´d update you
all on my activites before I fly to Sydney tomorrow!
It´s been another amazing week in South America; this time without any
allergic reactions (I hope you all had a good laugh) or fraudulant
activity - always a bonus haha.
The tour continued from Paraty (the quaint little coastal town in
Brazil) through to Iguassu Falls, Uruguay and finally Argentina on
Monday - pictures will follow but we don´t seem to be at a computer
long enough at the moment to upload them!
The second half of our tour has been just as amazing and breath taking as the
first. I know that sounds incredibly cliché of me but hey, you will
agree with me when you see the pics - or maybe you won´t as my
pictures don´t do the sights any justice :s!
Probably the highlight of the last week has been Iguassu Falls. I´ve
never seen anything like it before in my life! I don´t know what I was
expecting but what I saw was above and beyond what I had thought. The size of the falls was just incredible - they are 1.7 miles in
length, almost 100 meters high and have over 250 drops along the way.
As I´ve said, pictures will follow but seeing them in real life was
spectacular. I have been lucky enough to see the Victoria Falls in
Zambia before and although they were much taller, in my opinion, the
Iguassu Falls were far more impressive.
Our group went on a boat tour along the river and under a couple of
the smaller falls. Great fun and a great shower haha.
We spent two days visiting the Falls as they are too big to do all at
once. They also form the border between Argentina and Brazil so we
visited the Argentinian side on the first day and the Brazilian side
the next.
The next few days were spent in Uruguay - a really nice country and
far less hectic than Brazil. I did a cycling tour of the capital
(Montevideo) went to a water park (and spend 3 hours on the lazy river
haha) and tried throat for the first time - interesting meat but
pretty good!
We then travelled into Buenos Aires on Monday for our last leg of the
tour. BA is awesome! The weather is beautiful, the people are lovely
and incredibly welcoming (despite the current tensions between the UK
and Argentina) and the food is brilliant! Since being here the girls
and I have been for a steak, tried Alfa Jors and Empanadas
(Argentina´s national foods) and had a tango lesson (packing in the
culture haha)! Alfa Jors are like this biscuit thing - pretty good -
and Empanadas are these cornish pasty type things - really good! The
Argentinians also have a very interesting way of serving hot chocolate
- boiling milk and then a stick of dark chocolate which you put in the
milk and let it melt. It´s called a submarino - so bizzare but tasted
great :-)!
Anyway, I think that´s it from me. Sorry about the essay length blog entry!
I hope all is well in the UK and that the weather has warmed up! I
hear the snow has been showing itself again.
Off to Sydney tomorrow for some more sun, I hope I´m not making you
guys too jealous :-). If it´s any consilation - I´m pealing :-( haha!
Keep safe everyone.
Hugs and kisses,
Sophie
