We were picked up from the Jungle Resort by a 4x4 on 13th Sept ready to start our tour deep into the Jungle. We arrived at our home for that night 3 hours later after a bumpy ride off road through the jungle and then by boat over the Kinabatang River to the place where we where staying that night. We checked into our room and went on a 2 hr cruise of the Kinabatang River for which we saw a Hornbill bird, and various other birds and lots of Macaque & probiscus monkeys but unfortunatly a recent flood of the river had driven the main thing we came here to see inland, that being the Borneo Pigmy Elephant :0(. That night we went back to our accomodation and had tea (rice and noodles again! I wont be wanting a chinese for some time I dont think!) After our food had settled we set off on our Jungle night walk.
We put on trousers and long sleave tops, leech socks and wellington boots, no leech was to get us, and made our way into the jungle. We saw lots of different insects such as scorpians, catterpillers (massive ones!) a tiger leech but before we could see much else the heavens opened and completed drenched us. We trudged through mud and water that almost came over the wellies for another 45 mins to get back to the accomodation. But the time we got back we were well and truly drenched, my camera case which I hid inside my trousers with a massive leave over it to stop my camera getting wet was soaked and so was my camera but luckily it still works!
The following morning we woke up at 5am got ready and went on our second river cruise again we wernt lucky enough to see a Pigmy Elephant but saw snakes, monkeys and lots of birds again. After our 3 hour boat trip we went back for breakfast before we headed back to Sepilok to get our bus back to Kota Kinabalu to climb Mount Kinabalu the tallest mountain in Malaysia standing at 13,435 ft the 20th tallest mountain in the world.
